BHSH Spectrum Health West Michigan Fills Key Leadership Positions
Seasoned senior leaders fill roles with Spectrum Health Frederik Meijer Heart & Vascular Institute and Spectrum Health Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids, Mich., Aug. 4, 2022 – BHSH Spectrum Health West Michigan has filled two key leadership positions: Vikram S. Kashyap, MD, as vice president and department chief of the Spectrum Health Frederik Meijer Heart & Vascular Institute, and Jon Ashford as chief operating officer, Spectrum Health Grand Rapids.
Dr. Kashyap joins Spectrum Health West Michigan from the Vascular Center of the Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio. He is a professor of surgery in the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and was appointed the Alan H. Markowitz, MD, Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. Kashyap completed his undergraduate studies at The Pennsylvania State University and received his medical degree from the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa. He completed his internship and residency in surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston. He was selected for a research fellowship at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in Bethesda, Md., to study atherogenesis, followed by a vascular and endovascular surgery fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Kashyap was chief of vascular surgery at the Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and as an active-duty officer rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
At Spectrum Health Frederik Meijer Heart & Vascular Institute, among other objectives, Dr. Kashyap will lead the implementation and measure adherence of clinical pathways that are evidence-based while engaging key stakeholders, foster a consumer-centric approach for access, care pathways and patient education and support academic and research programs. He is responsible for the recruitment of physicians and advanced practice providers with exemplary credentials and will also work to achieve financial sustainability through program and clinical service line strategy, growth, cost containment and improved efficiencies.
Jon Ashford joined Spectrum Health West Michigan in 2020 as chief operating officer at Spectrum Health United and Kelsey Hospitals, where he served as chair of the United and Kelsey Workplace Violence Committee and provided executive oversight of the Community Health Needs Assessment and the COVID-19 vaccination program. Prior to joining Spectrum Health, Ashford was interim chief executive officer, chief operating officer and ethics and compliance officer of the 307-bed Palms of Pasadena Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla. He also previously served as interim chief operating officer and assistant administrator at the 624-bed Largo Medical Center in Largo, Fla.
He received his undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University, before getting a Master of Science degree from Villanova University in Philadelphia, Pa. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Leadership and Organizational Development from the University of Arizona.
In his position as chief operating officer, Spectrum Health Grand Rapids, Ashford will partner closely with the leadership team in leading and supporting the overall operations of the Grand Rapids hospitals and Medical Center campus. He will also be part of the operational dyad in leading the Acute Health service line. He will have accountability for mission control, the emergency departments, trauma programs and Aero Med. He will focus on quality, safety, affordability, and patient and team member satisfaction.
