Job Summary
Assumes primary role in staffing in Patient and Family Cancer Support Center (PFCSC) front desk and the Art for Recovery (AFR) Art Studio, greeting visitors, and guiding to cancer-related information and resources. Serves as support to volunteers, interns, and new staff on same. Uses professional concepts to apply organization policies, procedures and values to oversee a variety of ongoing administrative operational issues. Administers defined operational program. Analyzes and resolves operational problems of moderate scope. Assists with planning, and development of program procedures. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.The Patient and Family Cancer Support Center (PFCSC) supports whole-person care by providing information, wellness programming, and community connections to anyone facing cancer and their loved ones. Since opening in 1997, the PFCSC continues to offer and facilitate a number of support groups, classes, and workshops at no cost. The Support Center is part of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and available to cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers regardless of where care is received.

Art for Recovery is an award-winning program of the UCSF Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center. Through this program, patients coping with life-threatening illness, such as AIDS and cancer, are given an opportunity to express their feelings and experiences through art using their own creativity as part of the healing process.

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Center in an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial trans-disciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The outpatient solid tumor clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 270 non-physician FTEs, 32+ cost centers, over a dozen grant and philanthropic funding sources and a $22,000,000 expense budget. The Cancer Center is comprised of practices from many different departments across the School of Medicine such as surgery, medicine, urology, orthopedics, ob/gyn, etc. At the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, we are truly pioneering care and leaders in all areas of cancer clinical care and research. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • At least 2 years of administrative/ related experience.
  • Ability to work independently using sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff verbally and in writing.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate clearly, compassionately and effectively with patients and their caregivers both verbally and in writing.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs including Excel
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to sensitively interact with patients who are facing serious illness and their families/support systems.
  • Ability to manage professional social media presence of multiple programs
  • Ability to manage professional, clear, and appealing public-facing web content advertising and outlining the events and services of multiple programs.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Therapeutic presence (i.e.: reflective listening, conveyance of empathy), and ability to explain explaining complicated systematic concepts in Spanish, Cantonese, or Russian.
  • Clear knowledge of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color cultural groups; including their strengths, needs, and communities.
